HASHTAGS: #91days, #TV91Days
It’s probably way too soon to say this since it’s only two episodes, but the thing that probably makes this show a step below perfect is the artistic style budget. At least, for a “perfect simple show”. It is not wrought with genius intellect, but there is still this flair for the “mafia genre”. At least, the stereotypical type of mafia drama, the sit on the couch noir [detective] films, that many know and read about. Well, so far, detectives aren’t involved, but who gave Avilio that letter?
Vanno reminded me of someone.
Got a great OP by TK. A little questionable; it has a modern, morose sound, but along with the clips, the whole thing fits the show’s mood. That is the conflict within the families and Avilio’s destructive goal. And isn’t Avilio very gloomy? And watching him stroke that gun was great.
Then we have everything within a mafia drama. Friend revenge, bullcrap family alliances that’s questioned, kink (WE GOT KINK! Not Game of Thrones but we got kink!), emphasis on selling booze illegally, family war, Avilio’s decision making and interacting with Vanno…
The Don of Venetti, Vincente quotes something that sits well with the ending. “Move too fast or you’ll trip”.
I don’t dislike Sakurai Takahiro (櫻井孝宏), who has too many roles to list, but it’s like every time he appears as a character, he drags trouble behind him. Considerable trouble. I can’t count how many times. I almost need to return to “Kyo Kara Maoh” to cleanse myself. In here, he voices the Vanetti’s assistant, Barbelo. So far, a composed guy with good judgement. The word Barbelo apparently means “the forethought of all” and refers to Jesus and/or God? It is apart of Gnosticism (SOURCE: Britannica)
It’s revealed that Vanno was apart of killing Angelo’s family. His name is an Italian verb for “going”, third person.
Vanno’s execution of Serpente reminded me of an anecdote of a real life mafia. I think it was the Iceman, the infamous Richard Kuklinski. He asked a man to go on his knees and beg to God to save him.
“It was a man and he was begging, and pleading, and praying, I guess. And he was [saying] ‘Please, God’n all over the place. So I told him he could have a half an hour to pray to God and if God could come down and change the circumstances, he’d have that time. But God never showed up and he never changed the circumstances and that was that. It wasn’t too nice. That’s one thing, I shouldn’t have done that one. I shouldn’t have done it that way.”
From Murderpedia (SOURCE): In one interview, Kuklinski confessed that he only regretted one murder, which he deemed particularly cruel. As he was about to kill a man, the man began praying to God for his life. Kuklinski told him that he would give God 30 minutes to save him, but once the time was up, he would be killed. Forcing the man to wait 30 minutes for his demise struck Kuklinski as his most sadistic murder.
Angelo/Avilio’s handgun looks pretty modern compared to the others that I’ve seen. A semi-auto pistol that looks similar to a Beretta, while Nero has a revolver. What?
It could be a Benelli?
